Anti Aging-The Reasons Our Skin Ages

As a person grows older, one of the first things that he may notice is the changes in his skin. Wrinkles may begin to appear and the skin may begin to lose its tone and start to sag. Experts have discovered tat there are two different types of aging-intrinsic and extrinsic.

Intrinsic (internal) aging is the type of aging that occurs from the natural aging process. Although this type of aging begins when a person in his twenties the visible signs of it do not occur until years later. When this aging begins, the skin slows down its production of collagen and elastin, the two elements that are responsible for firm skin tone and elasticity. The production of new skin and the disposal of dead skin cells are also decreased. The rate of this aging process is influenced by genetic factors.

The visible signs of intrinsic aging include the appearance of fine wrinkles and a lack of skin firmness due to the loss of fat tissue, especially in the cheeks, neck, and hands. Your bones may seem to be pulling away from your skin due to increased bone loss, causing areas of your body to sag. Your hair may begin to turn gray, or you may begin to lose it. Unwanted body hair may start to appear. You may also lose your ability to sweat properly, making it impossible for you to keep your skin cool. You may experience other signs of aging such as dry, itchy skin and a thinning of your nails.

Extrinsic aging is the premature aging that is caused by external elements. The sun is one of the major causes of this type of aging. Repetitive facial expressions can also cause premature wrinkles and fine lines to develop. Cigarette smoking can also contribute to the extrinsic aging of your skin.
While there not much that can be done about the intrinsic type of aging, you can help slow the extrinsic aging process by limiting the amount of time that you spend in the sun, quitting smoking, and becoming more aware of any repetitive facial expressions that are present.

Aging is a natural process that you can never stop completely. With the proper care and precautions, you can put up a heck of a good fight.
