Face Lifts-How Are They Done?

In a society that emphasizes youth, it comes as no surprise that many people are not willing to age gracefully. Due to medical advances in cosmetic surgery, these individuals can fight the aging process every step of the way.

Face lifts have become more popular in recent years. While these surgical procedures have become routine, there is still an amount of risk involved. You should discuss the possible risks and side effects of having a face lift with your doctor.

Before you actually go into the surgical room, there are several decisions that you will need to make. First you need to decide the type of anesthesia that you want. You can have it given to you as a general anesthetic or you can have an IV put in and receive the drugs intravenously. With the help of your surgeon, you should be able to decide which method is best for you.

You may also want to consider different options that can give you the best results from your face lift. Face implants can be put in place to lift and support different areas of your face, such as your cheekbones. Soft tissue augmentation is another procedure that can shape and change the contours of your facial structure itself. Injections such as Botox can help reduce build up the facial tissue. There are also a number of resurfacing techniques that your doctor can use to improve the tone and texture of your face. Again, with the help of your doctor you can decide which procedures will allow you to get the best results from your face lift.

The procedure involved in performing a face lift is relatively simple. The doctor will make an incision that begins in your hair line and follows around your ears and stops at your lower scalp (the scar that will remain will be hidden in your hairline). He then redistributes or shapes the fat and repositions the underlying tissue. He will also lift the muscle to give your face a more youthful appearance. The skin is then simply replaced over the newly shaped tissue and muscles. The excess skin is cut away while the rest is reattached using skin adhesives or sutures.

After the surgery, the skin will swell and bruise for several days. Within a few weeks, however, you should be able to gaze upon a fresher and newer you.
