Skin Care-Understanding Skin |

Many people have problems with their skin. Some individuals have to deal with dry skin while others complain that their skin is too oily. Understanding exactly what skin is can help you to perform proper skin care, whatever your condition may be. Skin is the largest organ in the human body and serves as a defensive mechanism against external elements. It protects your organs and skeleton from trauma and keeps out bacteria and other infections that can cause disease. The skin has numerous nerve endings in it that cause you to react to extreme temperatures, pressure, touch, and injury. It also regulates your body temperatures by increasing its blood flow which releases your body’s heat and decreasing the flow to conserve heat. It prevents the body’s fluids from evaporating or washing away. The skin also produces vitamin D and absorbs oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide. Because of all the functions that it performs, it is important that you maintain your skin’s health. In order to prevent your skin from becoming vulnerable, personal hygiene is essential. Dead skin cells flake off continuously and dirty skin can cause these flakes to become mixed with bacteria which can leave your skin vulnerable to disease. You should wash your face daily and avoid wearing too many cosmetics. Oily skin can be caused by hormonal or glandular problems. If you suffer from this condition, you may have a problem with acne. There are many acne creams and medications available today. You should be careful not to dry your skin out too much, however. One advantage of having oily skin is that it ages well, causing wrinkles to develop at an older age than in the case of a person who has drier skin. If you do suffer from dry skin, this could be caused by overexposure to heat, such as the sun or the dry heat in your home during the winter months. Dry skin can also be caused by hormonal changes, such as pregnancy or menopause. There are various lotions and creams available, although water-based products are the best for this condition. Proper skin care is essential to your well being. Keeping your
skin healthy can help to keep your body healthy as well. |
